Portfolio > Self-portraits

This painting and the following three together are meant to hang close together, like a four part cartoon strip, to retell the Icarus myth. The idea came to me from seeing a bronze statue of Icarus in a show of Victorian art at the Brooklyn Museum. I thought it could be seen as a metaphor for the artist, who dares to do something ambitious, who possibly overreaches, and perhaps fails. In my version Icarus does not drown (too harsh a punishment), but survives to try again.
