Art About Art
At the time this was painted Long Island was suffering from a rash of nursing home fires, and the papers often carried photographs of the victims. They put me in mind of the many Renaissance paintings of Christ taken down from the cross. The nurse, here, is from a figure in just such a painting by Jacopo Pontormo.
